George Sibley – Smyrnea Lost and Found

Join us as film producer George Sibley shares insight into his work on the film "Smyrnea Lost and Found". Filmed shortly after the completion of archaeological surveys in New Smyrna Beach and the discovery of Turnbull's letters and maps in the archive in Dundee Scotland, Smyrnea Lost and Found is a wonderful overview of the community of settlers who founded the area now recognized as New Smyrna Beach.

SVHS Annual Cookout and Business Meeting

Held at the museum, this annual event is a wonderful opportunity to meet other members of the Southeast Volusia Historical Society. The museum will supply items from the grill along with soft drinks, beer and wine. Members who attend are requested to bring an appropriate side dish or desert to add to the meal. Watch for a signup sheet in April and May's newsletter.

Jim Sawgrass “Florida’s Seminole Wars”

Jim Sawgrass joins us for this special matinee program to kick off the summer and shares the story of Florida's Seminole Wars from the Native American perspective.  Jim Sawgrass is a native Floridian of Muscogee Creek (Mvskoke) descent and living historian of the southeastern tribes of Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. Sawgrass has been sharing his  knowledge of the Southeastern Native American tribes for over 25 years. He served on the Florida Indian Council from 1991-1995. Sawgrass has been sharing his knowledge of the Southeastern Native American tribes for over 30 years.
